Not My Usual Substack Post
A political endorsement for my son
(I know many people, myself included, are filled “up to here” with campaign stuff. I hope you will find this one a little different.)
Some of you may know that I have a son, Cabral Bonner, who is one of the most wonderful human beings on the planet (not just my opinion.) He is a lifelong Oakland resident, and has been an attorney for over twenty years. He has represented people who have been subjected to excessive force by the police, communities affected by harmful environmental conditions including in Richmond and Hunters Point, and countless people and communities needing a brilliant and skillful lawyer to bring them justice after injury.
Now he is running for office to become a Judge in the Alameda County Superior Court.
If there is one thing we know for sure these days, it is that Judges really matter. A Judge who is smart, ethical, knows the law and cares about people is one of the best things that can happen for an individual or a community suffering personal or political injustice. A fair-minded Judge, who attempts to see all sides of an issue, with a wealth of experience in the courtroom is a Judge any of us would want to appear before.
That’s the kind of Judge Cabral will be.
I am writing you to ask for your support for my son, Cabral Bonner, in a special election to be held in June, 2026.
Alameda County registered voters can vote for him, anyone who wants to see a highly qualified Judge on the bench can offer financial support.

I have not stopped my substack writing, things have been a little busy in my life for the last few months, but I’m still working on the next post(s).

I will be delighted to vote for him! And - I'll share this out to other folks in Alameda Co.
Lorraine,
I wish I could vote for Cabral but I'm in Massachusetts. This is exciting. He is going to be a great judge. You must be so proud!
